Enzyme immunoassay for the qualitative and quantitative determination of IgG antibodies against glomerular basement membrane (GBM) in human serum.
Antibodies directed at the glomerular basement membrane (GBM) of the kidney indicate autoimmunemediated renal disorders, as the Goodpasture's syndrome. In co-operation with the complement, these autoantibodies initiate the inflammatory destruction of the GBM of kidney and lung. GBM-specific autoantibodies should always be determined together with anti-neutrophil cytoplasmatic antibodies (ANCA) since ANCA-associated glomerulonephritis requires a treatment different from that of Goodpasture's syndrome.
