EndothelialLipase(EL)isametabolicenzymeofHighDensityLipoprotein(HDL).ItisaphospholipaseA1moleculethathashighsubstratespecificityforaphospholipidthatexistsinHDLmoleculeanditpromotesHDLmetabolismbymetabolizingthisHDLphospholipid. IthasbeenconsideredthatELisinvolvedinlipidmetabolismandelevatestheriskofarteriosclerosisasstrongexpressionofELonnewlyformedvesselsandmacrophagesinarterioscleroticlesionsareobserved,whileELexpressesinvascularendothelialcellsandvascularsmoothmyocytesofnormalbloodvessels.
